Corporate Driver Training Service - Fleet Driver
Training Service
Hi!
– You have clicked onto the American Driving School Fleet
and Corporate Driver Training page. We are one of few driving schools
in California who offer this service. We have designed this page
to provide you with general information about our Corporate Driver’s
Training Program, and to bring into focus how this training program
could make a valuable difference in your business.
A common mistake that many companies make is that they check every
important aspect of a potential employee, EXCEPT their ability to
drive safely.
Some businesses require their employees to drive a company vehicle
in order for them to do their job. Other companies only use employees
to run an occasional errand or make infrequent deliveries. The problem
is that whether they use a company vehicle or their own car, there
on company time. Potentially, their company may be held at least
partly at fault if they were every in a collision.
As we all drive ourselves back and forth to work each day, we all
observe other drivers who make driving errors. Some of these errors
are small while others are very dangerous. Unfortunately, many of
these drivers aren’t even aware that they made a mistake or
that they broke the law. Other drivers are just big RISK TAKERS,
or just lack normal consideration for other drivers. Then there
are some drivers who just have very poor DRIVING SKILLS, and are
unable to control their car properly in a curve or to maintain their
speed and distance from other vehicles. In some cases they can’t
even turn a corner safely and legally.
Unfortunately, most of these drivers work somewhere for someone
or in some company. They take these types of problems with them
when they jump into a company vehicle. All of this adds up to increased
insurance costs, increased vehicle repairs and down time, not to
mention raising workman’s comp rates and the cost of attorneys
and law suits.
One way that we have found to avoid or at least minimize these
potential problems is to become proactive and to get ahead of the
problem by providing an easy and inexpensive employee driver’s
training program.
Our company has been offering driver’s training for businesses
for over 20 years. Our program is easy. THIS IS HOW IT WORKS.
American Driving School has developed a three part Driver’s
Training Program.
PART I
Part I consists of a classroom training program which covers driving
laws, defensive driving techniques, emergency procedures, pre trip
and post trip techniques, methods to control our emotions, space
management skills and vision habits. These classes can take between
two to three and a half hours. The length of the course depends
greatly on the company’s schedule and time available.
PART II
Part II involves one on one behind the wheel training. Many of
the companies we have worked with have found this to be by far the
best “bang for their buck.” Keep in mind that just because
an employee has a driver’s license and they were able to drive
their Mustang into the parking lot doesn’t mean they can safely
drive a company vehicle.
In Part II each company driver is taken out in their company vehicle
and trained to drive CORRECTLY. They will be taught how to use the
techniques that they learned in Part I. This includes learning how
to adjust their mirrors, how to find the apex of a turn, proper
use of clutches and brakes, while at the same time we have an opportunity
to observe bad driving habits, vehicle abuses, and driver’s
attitude. Most managers and/or supervisors of companies have reported
to us that they were astonished at how little most of their drivers
knew about the proper techniques of driving, and how much each driver
admitted they had learned through this program.
PART III
Part III is designed to help maintain the knowledge obtained in
this driver’s training program. The first step is done through
testing at the end of the behind the wheel training. It’s
an oral test where questions are asked to find out how much information
was retained. If the driver fails to answer some of the questions,
they are provided with the answers. A written report is submitted
to their supervisor on general mistakes that they made during the
training and the improvements that they made.
In step two we provide quiz sheets. These quizzes consist of approximately
15 multiple choice questions, again asking questions regarding the
behind the wheel training. These questions are generally administered
at safety meetings, and the answers to the questions are discussed
for clarification.
As
part of this program, we provide a speaker who will come in twice
a year at these safety meetings and administer the test or discuss
driving techniques at no extra cost to the company.
Our Driver’s Training Program is normally customized to fit
the hours and scheduling of each company. Some companies choose
to only use the behind the wheel training, while other companies
only use the classroom training. It’s really all up to you,
but we hope that you will consider American Driving School’s
course and what it can do for you. We feel that you will find our
course will not only save you money and time, but will have a carry
over value for each of your employees.
