Disabled Drivers Training & Driver Rehabilitation in San Diego County

Rehabilitation Centers we work with.Whether you are young or old and regardless what type of life style you have, one thing that most people agree upon is the importance of being mobile. For most of us that means having some form or means of transportation.

That’s why it is so important to maintain our ability to drive. Driving affords us the availability and freedom to jump in and out of our car at a moment’s notice and go where we please. That’s why for most of us protecting our privilege to drive is of monumental importance.

For 30 years American Driving School has been working side by side with men and women who have had their driving privilege challenged because of various types of vision or health problems. Some have had a stroke or heart attack, while others have been involved in industrial or auto accidents that have affected their ability to drive safely.

Fortunately, a large portion of these drivers still have a chance to regain their privilege to drive by proving that they have learned to compensate for their disability. In some cases this means learning to use hand controls, while others need to learn how to use their vision more effectively. In many situations special equipment like left-footed gas pedals or steering knobs are necessary to help compensate for their disability. The important thing to remember is that there is always hope with the proper training and modern equipment. You would be amazed at the number of drivers who have overcome their disability and successfully passed their driving retest.

The Rehabilitation Division of our driving school is operated by Senior Instructor, Richard Milford who in the past 30 years has helped thousands of drivers who have had every conceivable type of disability to regain their driver’s license. To date he has a 95% pass rate. Through his years of experience, Mr. Milford has developed teaching techniques that make learning new driving habits easier. He teaches drivers in their own vehicle, and at times that are convenient for them. Lessons are one and a half hours in duration. He instructs students in the proper way to drive, and helps them get rid of their bad driving habits, while explaining what they will have to do or be asked to do in order to successfully pass their retest.

If the DMV requires a written test to be taken, Mr. Milford or his staff personally coaches each student and provides practice material, making it possible to study at home at their convenience. He explains how to read and understand the questions that will be asked.

It would appear that trying to find the right person for the job when you really need someone seems almost impossible. Looking in the yellow pages under driving schools, for example, will most likely lead you to a driving school that trains teenagers. But, what you really need is a SPECIALIST trained to work with drivers who have special needs, an instructor who understands the retesting system and how to work with DMV successfully.

We hope that if you have special needs that you will consider American Driving School. We have been helping people like you for 30 years. We invite your inquiries about our disabled driver training program, and we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
